Grandpa is gone, and somebody has to clear out his garage.

It starts with a coffee can of screws. It ends with every coffee can, drawer, barrel and wheelbarrow in the place: 250,000 nuts, bolts, nails and washers, sorted one by one into jars on the pegboard.

Sort by hand, then buy grandpa's own tools: a muffin tin, a magnet, a sieve, a vibrating table, labelled drawers, and your cousin.

19 keepsakes are buried in the pile. Pin them to the corkboard and learn who he was.

It ends. About 2-4 hours to the last screw, and it saves on its own.

Enjoyed the whole experience! Took me roughly three hours and I had it downloaded, no performance issues. The tutorials could use some work, and please don't let them evaporate on their own! I had this on my second monitor and lost a lot of stuff. With that said, I personally did not get the memo about being able to click to put things in the muffin tin and so thought it was kindof useless for an embarrassing long time... Also clearer indication of what the next level of conveyer would add to would help, and the lanes felt out of order? By the time I unlocked the one for bolts, I had the conveyer (autobuying what was recommended) for them and it stayed empty. I also *could not* grasp what was happening with the lanes and sliding them, so clearer explanation could be super useful here. Overall a great time, absolutely fantastic to throw on a second screen while you're procrastinating work. High recommendation!

Really sweet! I enjoyed and found it cozy until receiving the Lake Superior post card. My grandfather lives (and fishes!) on the shore of Lake Superior and has a garage just like this, full of workshop tools and boxes and boxes of assorted bric-a-brac. Not sure how I didn't connect any of it until the postcard, but I finished the rest of the game in tears. Well done!

You should add settings for fps

Amazing game, it was a good experience UwU

god damm the text/UI is small. Tried to zoom in on the screen, but cant zoom enough that I dont have to squint in order to see what it spells.

Ey! Congrats for your game. I have a little studio and I am starting to share content about other indie games, can I post a little review?

that would be great thank!

speedrunning? thats 1 minute more than half my time and I thought i was min maxing

So, not being a speedrunner but just figuring things myself, there are some upgrades that aren't worth it.  In particular the sieve, pour upgrades, and later tin upgrades.

My best time is around 1 hour 33 min IIRC.  Get to magnet and use that to fill the muffin tin until you get to all 6 containers.  Repeat for all magnetic items, let the emptying cups and pouring as needed.  getting a level or two of gloves is OK, as is the store buyback option.

You want to rush labels and then the shaker table.  Once labels are in place sweep the magnet over the pile and auto sort them into the jars.  Anything that you can't sort goes in the tin.  After you get the shaker table start getting the conveyor and cousin upgrades.  The goal is to get all the conveyors so that the cousin fills orders on his own without missing them and the conveyor can run continuously.

What a surprising idea for a game. It actually got me a little emotional thinking about my dad. He has a shop with a lot of stuff in it and really seems very similar to the grandpa from this game in a lot of ways. He's getting up there in years, so I couldn't help but think about the fact I may be doing this myself for real sometime unfortunately soon. I don't know if this game was made with any kind of personal experience or to help get through anything. It was definitely worth two hours of my time though.

could you make so the request still pay you if you did not finish it because they leave with everything and rob you each time pls?

Unless I missed it or something changed from the first version, the items just drop on the table below where the box was if you fail an order.

you have successfully wasted 2h46m of my life...

10/10 would waste my time again

Really cool
I think the visuals of the upgrades could be better, and the gameplay/descriptions, is a little confusing the strategy at certain points.

A thing i think would be really cool, stop all tools at the last 10 items to the player to sort manually, i think it is more dramatic

[SPOILER BELLOW]

I think the letter should be more emotional and more rewarding.
The items were really cool, but they cold also be more emotional.
If you manage to get a soundtrack that fits the emotion on those parts, i think this game has even more potential.

Good game!

Very cool game, i know that some people don't like how fast the end is but I think it's very satisfying to sit back and watch as it finishes :)

Yes, but i think at least the last 10 items would be cool to sort manually, like in a dramatic way

Very cool, one of the most satisfying incremental games I've played. I just wish there was a colorblindness mode, because in the early game I found it very very difficult to differentiate the green from red background informing if the screws match the container, maybe blue for correct and red for incorrect? or even no color at all for incorrect? Thanks for this game, very fun, would wishlist on steam!!

thats a great idea thank you for playing and taking time to leave a comment i will start working on a colorblind mode now

Nice game! The end was a bit... rushed. A bug robbed me of 50k on the ground, game froze for a couple seconds and left me with 5k left.

fix is live with update thank you for playing.

Great game—I created an account on itch (something I’d been planning for a while) just to leave a review

-The game took me 6 hours to complete (2 hours of active play + 2 hours of idle time + 2 hours of endgame)

-Very good “fantasy”—that is, the main “feel” of organizing a cluttered space (I know a thing or two about that); the concept and idea have huge potential!

-Early game: very nice progression, pleasant sounds, good timing

-Mid-game combos are very satisfying

-The endgame picks up the pace significantly—the first half took me about 85% of the time, and the second half 15%; the pace could have been faster at the beginning and not so drastic at the end

-As others have noted: the keepsakes on the board don’t really matter once you’ve collected half the screws

-Technical issues: in the desktop version, when in full-screen mode, changing the sound causes the window to shrink

-Also: where are the credits, social media links, etc.? I’d like to be notified when you create something new, so please be sure to add the credits

Nice game took me 2:20 hours

good game, took 2:50, the 4-5 h estimate is a bit off

Nice game. A bit hard on the RSI fingers.  One MAJOR issue:  The 'start over' button is in the shop. I thought it was a 'restart all purchases again' button.  I was roughly halfway through the game, when I thought 'hmm i could refund all purchases and buy this expensive thing'.  No, it was RESET GAME button.  Yes I am very le stupid.

However, @developernoah if you could kindly put the RESET GAME button somewhere else eg in settings, where these sort of buttons usually live, that would be greatly appreciated.  Putting a reset game button in a shop full of clickable purchases is slightly inappropriate, yeah?

Fun little game to just turn your brain off and play, though I think I'm a little confused on what I'm doing wrong with the conveyor. It worked once when I turned it on, and now it only says 'waiting for you' no matter what I try to do. Is this a bug?

Wait I figured it out, didn't realise it took the pieces out of the main container. I'm so smart <3

i love sorting things irl and i enjoyed this greatly, thank u for ur service

very fun gme, i completed it in like 3:30 hours and the game loop is very addictive

three notes about the general pacing:

1. like someone else also said, i got the trinkets in a very unhelpful order, i guess bc of randomization, and probably bc of that it felt like they didn't add a lot. it might be fun if the trinkets were a bit more powerful but also you could only have a limited amount on the board at any active time? maybe like 3 or so that you could swap

2. the super late game feels a bit off in pacing. i got all the upgrades and still had like 100,000 left, that plus the fact that even max upgraded, your cousin sorting the odd pieces is still too slow to keep up with the conveyor belt kind of made the final bit drag on

3, this might just be a me thing bc i paced things oddly, but i ended  up with the conveyor while the tray length upgrade was still at like 2/5. so i ended up only fully upgrading the tray at the very end for completion's sake

Thank you for playing it all the way through, and for the detailed notes! 3:30 is right about where I hoped people would land.

  1. The keepsakes aren't actually random. Each one is tied to a container. But their bonuses had nothing to do with when they show up, which is why the order felt so unhelpful. I've reworked them so each one helps whatever you're using at that point in the game. I like your idea of fewer but stronger keepsakes, with about 3 active at a time that you can swap. That's a bigger change, so I'm going to think about it rather than rush it in.
  2. You're right about the late game. The keepsakes that come out near the end now speed up your cousin, which helps a bit, but it doesn't fully fix the cousin not keeping up with the belt. Running out of upgrades with 100k left is the bigger problem, and it's next on my list.
  3. Not just you, I think. The conveyor can arrive before the lane upgrades feel finished, and then they stop mattering. I'll look at it alongside the late-game pacing.

The keepsake changes will be in the next update. Thanks again, this was really useful!

It's so tiny! It makes it kind of fiddly to pick things up and tell them apart.

(1 edit) (+3)

sorry this is my first game im getting full screen figured out now

(+1)

Thanks for the quick reply! I'm looking forward to trying it out if you get the screen size larger. (Not necessarily full screen, just higher resolution.

(+3)

full screen is added as well as some other gameplay updates suggested by other players. please let me know what you think the resolution is actually fairly high it just doesn't look great in the small window.

Good little game. Think it deserves a sequel.

Thanks for playing glad you enjoyed it

That was fun and quite satisfying, though I can't help but notice a few strange points. like for example, the vibrating table that helps autosort the items, untangle the nails, and batch grab the items.

I understand the usefulness of it (used it a ton, especially once you upgrade so that the nail auto untangle), but why is there 5 upgrades for it? once you bought 4 of those upgrades the last is just... a money sink since nothing changed at that point.

Also the trinkets that give a small boost, I'm guessing those are randomized when you get them, but I think it shouldn't, or at least I think there should be a range so that you get certain one at either early, mid, or late game. I got the trinket that increase the tin can's capacity by 2... when I have fully upgraded vibrating table & conveyer set up, that's pretty much useless at that point. on the flip side, I got a conveyor belt speed increasing trinket as my 2nd trinket, useless for a majority of my time playing.

I don't think you need to make it so that "this trinket comes out once the player took out exactly 3,523 items and this one at 68,332 items", but a range like "this trinket could appear around 0 - 5,000 items and this one is once they pull out 50,000+ items" would help make each trinket feels more useful. (I get that it supposed to be a small upgrade since it doesn't give a lot of boost, so it doesn't matter too much at the end, but I think this would make the game experience feels a lot better. At the very least, I think I would enjoy it more, though it's already pretty enjoyable as of right now.)

Thank you for playing all the way through, and for writing all this up. This is exactly the kind of feedback that helps.

You're right about the vibrating table. Once screws, nuts, bolts and nails each had their own lane, the only thing left for the last lane was oddballs. So the fifth upgrade changed nothing and just cost money. The table now has 4 levels. If you already bought the fifth, you'll get those coins back when your save loads.

On the keepsakes: they aren't actually random. Each one is tied to a specific container. The problem is the one you spotted, though. Their bonuses had nothing to do with when they show up. The belt bonus came out of the junk drawer, hours before you'd own a conveyor, and the tin-cup bonus turned up in the loft, long after the tin stopped mattering. I've reworked them along the lines you suggested. Early keepsakes now help the tin, magnet and coins, the middle ones help your cousin and the table, and the late ones help the belt and your cousin, who is the real bottleneck at the end.

These changes will be in the next update. Thanks again, really glad you enjoyed it!

Finally beat the game in 3:51. Somehow such a simple game has me going "gee, now if only I could convince their neighbors to let me sort their stuff as well."

i'm glad you enjoyed it! neighbors are actually in the future plans.

well.  done.

Thank you!

Can't seem to find how to grab the other tins even after going to the garage view.

Thanks for playing, and sorry that wasn't clear! You can't pick containers in any order. They come one at a time, and the next one only unlocks once the one on your bench is completely finished. The garage view you open with G just shows the room until then, so clicking things in it won't do anything.

"Finished" means all of these:

  • the coffee can is poured out (keep clicking it until nothing more comes out)
  • nothing is left on the bench, including stray items in the corners
  • the muffin tin cups are empty, if you've bought it (this is the one that catches people)
  • any keepsake on the bench has been picked up

Once that's done, the garage view opens on its own. The next container glows with a "Next: …" tag, like the bucket in the screenshot. Click it, or click "Bring in the bucket".

If you've done all of that and it still won't unlock, tell me what's still on your bench and I'll look into it. That would be a bug.

The tin cups are indeed what got me.
